“We all smile in the same language.” This is the message Greeley West High School’s El Teatro is trying to spread through the community inside and outside of school. El Teatro had their final performance February 23 at the Mosaic church. Their exhibition includes students from all over Greeley and the world uniting through songs, dances, videos, and powerful messages from the students.

Juniors Jennifer Rodriguez and Jamana Alzamanan loved the process leading up to their big performance, however for them it was nerve wracking and stressful, but of course fun. Rodriguez stated, “It was interesting because you want other people to feel the joy we feel and see the effort in what we are doing and the message we are trying to get out there.”

The students in El Teatro have seen people be oppressed and they are trying to make a change. “Especially in today’s day, not everything is easy for everyone, and we want everyone to know that it doesn’t matter your skin color, your language, or your culture because we are all one,” Alzamanan explains.

This performance could have never have happened without the help of the advisers of El Teatro.  Ms. Jessica Cooney, Ms. Mary Bodkin, Ms. Arielle Cobble, and a few others have reminded the student stay strong and keep spreading the word that everyone is welcome.
