DECA team just misses qualifying for Nationals

On February 26, five of Greeley West DECA members went to the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs for the annual state DECA convention. The five kids that qualified were senior Deigo Ruis, senior Andrew Wethington, junior Jackson Starkey, junior Tosh Swapp, and junior Mary Tori.

In the Business Law and Ethics Decision Making contest, which included Ruis and Wethington, there was 60 teams at State DECA for that category. The Greeley West team made finals. They placed 7th.

The top six teams went to nationals in Anaheim, California. Their final score was 241.5 the 6th place teams score was 245. DECA coordinator Mr. Rich Dufault spoke about his seniors leadership and why this year’s DECA convention was so good. “I’m extremely proud of the whole DECA chapter at Greeley West; I’m really glad I had the opportunity to work with Ruis and Wethington, their leadership has made our DECA program so amazing to be a part of. Placing 7th in law and ethics shows their quality as students after qualifying four years in a row,” Dufault said.
