Special Olympians compete at track meet

Peyton Book, Staff Writer

The Special Olympics Track Meet was held at District 6 for students of all ages on May 4. Elementary, Middle, and High schools all around the area came to participate and compete. It was a long day for all participants; the event started at 9 a.m. and ended at 2 p.m.

There were multiple field events each student participated with such as, tennis/softball throws, running/standing long jump, and the beanbag drop. There were also running events like the 50, 100, 200M runs/walks, as well as the 4 x 100M relay.

Greeley West High School had 12 students competing. In past years, each student was able to compete in three events. However, this event has expanded so much that students were only able to compete in two events.

Junior Adrian Gomez competed in the 100M dash and the softball throw. He said his favorite was the softball throw.

This amazing event is able to occur each year because of the amount of volunteers they acquire.
