Link Crew orientation set for Friday

The year is coming to an end and a new one will begin in the fall. New supplies, new classes, and new freshmen will be rolling in. To make the transition from middle school to high school a little bit easier, West holds a freshmen orientation the day before school starts to welcome our the new students into the Spartan family.

At this orientation, junior and senior students help freshmen become familiar with the new school. This year, the counselors chose over 100 juniors and senior students to become link leaders in the fall. As a link leader, you attend summer training sessions and development days to prepare for orientation day.

Mrs. Deli Sambur said, “This is such a great opportunity, especially because we are such a large school, to help new freshmen become acquainted with the building and help the incoming class off the ground.”

On orientation day, the link crew will run the entire day. There are activities throughout the day to familiarize the incoming class with other freshmen and upperclassmen. There is also a tour, where the students can find their classrooms and ask questions to their link crew leaders about high school.

Returning link crew leader, Madison Aguilar, is “excited to work with the freshmen as they learn what it means to be a Spartan. I remember my own link crew leader and I am looking forward to getting to be one again this year.”
