February 1 is a big day for high school athletes around the nation as it is national signing day. High School athletes around the nation commit and sign to the college they choose. Greeley West had five athletes sign today.

First off, Darren DeLaCroix and Layton Shipp are committing to the University of Northern Colorado(UNC) to play football there. UNC has signed 39 new members to their football team today. DeLaCroix will be playing wide receiver. He committed during the football season and today he finally signed.

Shipp will be playing either offensive line or defensive line. He made his decision just a few days ago to go there.

The next person to commit was Xavier Vasquez. Vasquez committed to the University of Northern Colorado as well but he will be wrestling there. Vasquez has had a fantastic year in wrestling this year and he will be a good fit at UNC. UNC is also a Division 1 wrestling school. Vasquez is ranked second in the state for his weight class in wrestling and just recently won conference.

The next two commits were Hannah Emerson and Ryan Maddera. They will both be going to McCook Community College to play volleyball together. McCook is located in Nebraska.

Shipp exclaimed, “It’s close to home. They also have a program that helps cancer patients with physical therapy. And that is exactly what my mom is going through so it fits into my lifestyle perfectly.”
