Special Olympics bowling was held at Highland Park Lanes on Wednesday, Oct 18. Highland Park Lanes has been hosting the Special Olympics bowling event (Greeley) for over 12 years running.

Jeff Franklyn is the Special Olympics Northeast Regional Manager for Northeastern Colorado. He spent eight years coordinating in Michigan before moving to Colorado, where he is beginning his second year here and tenth year overall. He runs all of the meets, not just bowling. Throughout the year and his region, he oversees three bowling tournaments, five track meets, and two basketball tournaments. “It’s a team effort,” Said Franklyn. “I wouldn’t be able to pull [this] off without the help of my volunteers.”

The event was incredibly successful with over 200 athletes and 30 student volunteers from various schools across the district (20 from Frontier Academy). The bowling alley set up the lanes and with the communication between the schools, everything ran as smoothly as could possibly be expected.

Greeley West took five lanes between all of the students, about 5-6 students in each lane. All of the students had fun and each was awarded a ribbon. All of the students had a great time at this friendly competition.
