Last Saturday, Greeley West’s football season came to an end when the Spartans lost 34-7 against Loveland.

Loveland got off to a fast start after forcing an Aaron Rojas fumble on the very first drive, which Loveland recovered. The fumble recovery led to a Loveland rushing touchdown on a following play.

Later in the game, West elected to go for a first down on fourth-and-3 deep inside their own territory. Loveland stopped West and received the ball on the 30-yard line. Two plays later, Loveland threw an 18-yard touchdown pass, which gave the Indians an early 14-0 lead. Loveland kept their momentum going until half where they then led, 27-0.

Loveland did not allow West to the end zone until the fourth quarter when DJ Starks rushed in for a touchdown.

West finished the season 5-5 which was not up to the expectation of themselves as they started the season according to Derek West.

“At first we had hopes for going to the playoffs, but injuries and stuff overcame us as a team kind of, but we played through it and I’m proud of the way some guys stepped up,” West said.

After beating West, Loveland improved to 10-0 and moved on to the 4A playoffs facing off against Ponderosa this weekend.
