This year Greeley West welcomed new assistant principal Mr. Aaron Allen. He recently came from China with his family and has really enjoyed being here.

So far he has been really impressed by how hard teachers work and how caring they are towards students. In addition, Allen has been impressed with how students demonstrated creativity and thinking.

Allen came from an IB school in China. He said both schools have great IB programs, huge pride, and excellent teachers. Something different that he sees here at Greeley West is the wonderful programs offered here and he said that we surprisingly have more diversity.

Some goals Allen wants to accomplish this school year are to keep improving student academic achievement. To do so, they have added six classes to help the students needing extra help in math. West has new curriculums in math, English, and world languages that are engaging for students. More classes are being co-taught to help improve collaboration and to increase student support. IB/AP and AVID programs are continuing to grow. A health and safety committee has started this year to help students with their physical, social and emotional well-being.

Allen has been able to see our boys soccer team and our boys tennis team play. When watching them Allen said, “I love seeing the pride and heart that student-athletes are demonstrating every day.”

Outside of school Allen has said that he has really enjoyed Greeley. Before moving here Allen said people had said Greeley had a distinctive smell. But that hasn’t really been his experience at all. His favorite place so far is Winchell’s Donuts. “You can’t really get a good donut in China” says Allen.

Overall Allen is glad to join the Greeley community and to able to call himself a Greeley West Spartan. He can’t wait to meet more new people and find more ways together to support our students and our school.
