The Greeley West High School baseball team picked up two wins against Greeley Central High School this past week on Saturday and Monday. Saturday’s game ended 10-9 and West dominated Central, 15-5.

After yesterday’s game against Holy Family, the baseball team has record of 4-8 and 2-2 in league play.

Assistant coach Taylor Jurez said,  “I attended Greeley West High School and just having that rivalry I never lost to them when I played so it’s really nice keeping that streak going.”

Saturday’s game came down to the wire with it going into extra innings. West was leading all game including in the 4th inning being up 8-1. Alejandro Verdugo and Nathan Youngblood both with 3 runs each throughout the whole game.

Youngblood said, “Our energy was the biggest factor to our victory even though they came back after we were up, we knew what we had to do to finish the game off.”

Juarez stated, “We had a lot of confidence going into the 7th and then things went sideways. But our team is good enough that we still had enough confidence to end the game strong.”

On Monday, the team combined for 12 runs in the 4th inning. The game ended in the top of the 5th inning with the score ending in 15-5.

The Greeley West Baseball team hopes to build off these wins and keep the streak going. The next game will be hosted by Greeley West on tomorrow against Longmont.
