The Greeley West baseball team is off to a good start with wins its first two games. On Tuesday, the Spartans defeated Northridge 15 to 0, and last Saturday West won 8-4 at Gateway.
Against Northridge, senior Luke Ramirez pitched a no hitter. Camdon Duplex went 3-for-4 with one and two singles, while freshmen Nic Hernandez also went 3-for-4 with three singles and 2 RBI.
The West baseball team celebrated a thrilling victory in more contested game against Gateway, as the team’s determination and hard work paid off.
The game started off with a strong showing from both teams, but the Spartans had the momentum the whole game, but it was West who pulled ahead in later innings.
A pivotal moment was when the Spartans were on defense, there were bases loaded and Isiah got a huge double play and then got a strikeout with no runs. Another moment was when “Enrique in the sixth inning, we had bases loaded, and we were only up two and he cleared the bases with a double,” said assistant coach Cruz Rodriguez.
Sophomore Elliot Leffler mentioned the Spartans had the momentum from the beginning. “They put in a little bit better of a pitcher, and we had to catch up to him a little bit,” he said.
The victory boosted the team’s confidence as they look ahead to their next game. “I feel like we have a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season after this win,” said sophomore Duplex.
There is still lots to work on through the upcoming season. “Our win on Saturday was huge, and it was good to get a good start, but there are still a lot of things we need to work on. We left bases loaded in four innings which is unacceptable so we are just going to work harder and get those things right,” Rodriguez said.
