Anti-Trump protests miss point of democratic elections

Peyton Book, Staff Writer

Over the past couple weeks, anti-Trump activists have made their point clear protesting outside all of the Presidential candidate’s rallies. There is nothing wrong with peaceful protests, but before, and now after the election, the protesting has taken a turn for the worst.

The frustration of the crowd became hostile and violence began to arise; Protester’s unproductive attitude led to the burning of the American flag and other atrocious acts that insult many Americans.

Protests like the ones that happened after the election have been more peaceful, but are still unnecessary. I stand for the right for Americans to protest with their free will, however, the political process should not be a time for violence.

Whether you agree with Donald Trump or not, the election has already been determined. Now is the time for Americans to unite as a country.

Protestors continue to suggest Trump’s poor character and campaign promises are worthy of demonstrations in streets. Yet he has not made a single decision that has made our country better or worse. Doesn’t a democractically-elected individual have the right to be given a chance to prove his worth?

Protesters have the next four years to show their displeasure. Let’s unite for the time being and show the world democracy still works.
