In the past few weeks the social media circle has introduced a new craze. The Mannequin Challenge has taken the social media by storm.
The Mannequin Challenge was created by high school students at the Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Florida. The challenge involves a group of people who take a dramatic pose and freeze. They do this while hip hop duo’s Rae Sremmurds new song “Black Beatles” plays.
The people doing the Mannequin Challenge vary. It varies from high school students all the way up to professional sports teams. These team include the Dallas Cowboys, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Giants and more. There has been known Mannequin Challenges from local teams including one from CSU’s Golden Poms.
Students around West have been doing the Mannequin Challenge. On November 7th Ms. Cyndy Miller-Hughes 3rd hour junior AVID class did a Mannequin Challenge. Junior Ariel Flores stated, “It was cool because we were the first class to do it and after we did it everyone followed.”
Ever since Hughes’ AVID class did the Mannequin Challenge many classes followed. Some other noted Mannequin Challenges are Mr. Don Wagner’s AP Psych class and the Greeley West cheerleaders.

Ms. Lea Sanford’s AVID class performed one that was academically based as well in hopes of getting retweeted by the organization.
This seems to be just another craze that went viral. In the past year there has been plenty of trends that went viral and were gone in the next month. These trends include ALS Ice Bucket challenge, The Running Man Challenge, Harlem Shake and plenty more. This Mannequin Challenge will be gone within a month as pop culture will be looking for its new craze to share with the world.
