On Monday December 5, Greeley West’s ag program welcomed over 900 8th grade students for an Ag explore day. The point was to show the students what they could be introduced to if they decide to pursue in Agriculture classes during their years at West.

The students were shown the basics of Ag Mechanics, Animal Science, and Horticulture where they did activities to understand the meaning behind each of those classes. The students propagated Christmas cactus’ for the understanding of what they would be doing if they sign up for Horticulture. They then went to the petting zoo which demonstrated what they would be learning about in Animal Science. Lastly, West ag students showed how to use a number of tools in the shop such as the Miter saw, the Ban saw, and welding to show what Ag Mechanics would be like if they pursue to take that class.

Junior Demarco Goree said, “I demonstrated the Miter saw to the 8th graders and it gave descriptions on what the tools do and what we do on an everyday basis in anaAg class. If I had to choose whether or not, I would participate in this sort of thing next because it recruits kids to the ag program.”
