On January 24, the girls swimming team had their city meet against Greeley Central and Northridge. This was not only a huge rivalry meet but it was also senior night. The team did amazing and won the meet by a very good margin. They ended up beating Greeley Central by 137 points, beating them in 12 events and the girls beat four records that the meet held. This meet was absolutely dominating by the West team.

Not only did the team dominate as one, but individually each swimmer did amazing. Josie Carpenter and Elise Johnson both broke the city records that have been help by previous swimmers. Hailey Passerb won the 100 fly  for the second year straight. Emily Cook won the 50 freestyle and while winning she also got her best time in that. This was a great meet for all of the swimmers to show that they are the best swimming team in Greeley .

Josie Carpenter won the meet’s MVP award because she broke two of the records that were being held.

Since the swimming year is coming to an end, seniors are starting to come up on their final meets as high school swimmers. The 400 free relay was the seniors last time to swim it together. Emily Cook watched the event and said, “It was extremely exciting and sad to see all the seniors swim their last time together. Those seniors have been great leaders and are great swimmers. It was really sad knowing that was their last time swimming that race together.”

This week the team will have a couple of meets, then conference, and then state. Cook said, “We are all looking forward to conference and state but we are just focused on next week. They are pretty important meets.”
