Special Olympics basketball hopes for win today

Greeley West competed in the official Colorado Special Olympics basketball tournament held on Wednesday, January 25th. The Spartan special education program along with multiple general ed students competed in the basketball tournament that was held at Valley High School in La Salle.

The Spartans took on two cross-town rivals at the tournament. Their first game was against the Northridge Grizzlies. The Spartans fell 46-34 in a tough-fought game.

In the second round of the tournament, the Spartans took on Greeley Central. Greeley West lost that game 42-35. Greeley Central later went on to win the tournament.

During the tournament the Special Olympics team was accompanied by several general education students. These students were there to support players. They were on the court with the team. Sophomore Trey Flores stated, “It was a lot of fun to be there and help the students.”

The Spartans have their first home game today and want a lot of support.
