Two Spartans win Daniel’s Fund scholarships
April 10, 2017
Last week, David Orozco and Pablo Lopez, two Greeley West High School Seniors, were notified of winning the Daniels Fund Scholarship they had invested much time and had worked very hard applying for. Their hard work paid off as they are now receiving the scholarship.
The Daniels Fund is a private foundation that was established by entrepreneur Bill Daniels as a way to help operate and serve communities. The scholarship is a full ride scholarship to any college or university in the country. The scholarship is only available to high school seniors in Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Utah.
This year, the Greeley-Evans School District 6, had an all-time high of 8 students winning the scholarship. Two of which were Spartans David Orozco, an IB senior on the Boom Team and Pablo Lopez, an AVID senior on the soccer team.
“The process was long and tedious but wellworth it. Being a recipient is relieving and I will hopefully be able to connect and contribute to the community more now that a burden is gone,” stated Orozco.
Orozco plans to double major in Neuroscience and Biological & Chemical Engineering at either Colorado State University or the University of Colorado. Lopez plans to attend Colorado Mesa University while playing soccer on a partial scholarship there and the Daniels Fund will cover the remaining expenses.
“The teachers and opportunities at West really helped prepare me for this. It was just a matter of finding and taking the opportunities,” added Orozco.
