Last Thursday, Greeley West Link Crew met and hung out after school with any freshman that wanted to ride a district bus to West’s football game against Longmont in an effort to try to get freshman involved in after-school events.

Any kids that rode the bus down to the game and any Link Crew members that wore their shirts were able to get into the game for free.

After school, about 10 Link Leaders showed up to help with the 40 freshman that participated in the bus ride. They played getting to know you bingo with the freshmen in the choir room and made sure they were doing well in school and helping them with any questions or problems they had so far in the school year.

When they got to District 6 stadium, they had a free barbecue starting at 6 pm. that the Booster Club ran. They served pulled pork sandwiches, chips, Jimmy Johns sandwiches, and cookies. Counselor Kelly Stephens stated, “This was the second year and I just think it’s a really cool thing we do to try and get our freshmen involved in sport games early on.”

Stephens also said that not many Link Crew members participated in the event, with only 10 helping out after school and one who showed up at the game with their shirt on.

More upperclassmen participation is something they would like to work on getting better over the school year.
