Ballot issue 3A is back after close defeat last election

The past couple weeks more and more signs are popping up on the sides of the roads. The signs say, “Vote Yes, 3A.” 3A is a mill levy override, which is a tax that will put more money into the schools across the District.

3A was one of the ballot issues last year and it did not pass for District 6. District 6 is one of the few districts in Colorado that did not have a mill levy override passed last year. With the voting last year, 3A was only a few hundred votes off of winning and it was in striking distance of going into affect. That is why it is being voted on again this year because District 6 is in need of money.

If 3A would pass, Greeley West would certainly improve for the better.  West would retain staff members hire the highest quality of teachers and support staff that is possible. West would also want to increase the quality of safety and security. This could include security cameras, more professionals watching the building, and updated phone and emergency systems. West has very old textbooks and this could also allow for new textbooks and digital content to be given to teachers.

Students would be most excited to see Greeley West improve technology across the school. There could be more laptops and computers to increase learning and being able to use technology like West has never been able to do. Principal Jeff Cranson, who would not discuss 3A during business hours, did say funds for technology would be beneficial, regardless of where they come from.  “It would be awesome if we could put more computers in math and English rooms and help kids learn so much more,” Cranson said.
