Scholarship opportunities bountiful

Mo Duran, Staff Writer

The counseling office of Greeley West High School is attempting to send as many people as possible to college. Here’s what students need to know (all statistics subject to Greeley West).

In the class of 2017, the graduation rate was 78.9% and the enrollment into a secondary education program (certificate, associate, or bachelor) was 51.9%. This year, Principal Jeff Cranson and the counseling staff have a specific goal in mind. “My goal is to have every student fill out a college application,” said Cranson. “The districts goal is to have 60% of students go to school.”

The Greeley West counseling team is always striving for perfection. This year, there was the senior assembly for informing students about the different events coming up and what to look forward to in the spring.

One of the events already took place on Oct. 8th, the college Sunday. Approx. 20 students attended.

Tuesday, Oct. 17th is college application day. This day will be held in the library at Greeley West. Most Colorado schools will have representatives here to help walk students through college applications. Most of the schools attending will waive application fees for this Tuesday only.

Monday, Oct. 30th is the college fair. The fair is a standard fair set up in the Aux. Gym with representatives from over 20 schools. Applications may be handed out, but this day is more to represent the Colorado options.

In February (Date TBD) there will be a Scholarship application day. This day will be used to apply to Greeley/School specific scholarships.

In March (Date TBD) There will be a follow up day for every student who applied and got accepted to a post-secondary institution. This day will be used to follow up, enroll and register for classes.

The counseling office is available to students during the day, off blocks, and before and after school. They are all versed in the different programs that will help students to apply to schools/programs and scholarships. Setting up an appointment is the best way to guarantee they will be available.
