Dance is definitely a sport

Is dance a sport?

Almost every day a dancer will get asked, “Is dance a sport or an art?” It’s a fair question. However, most people don’t believe us when we say it is a sport. I believe dance qualifies as sport but also has elements of being art.

Dance is a sport. Dance has the same components as any other sport. The definition of a sport on Google is, a physical activity that requires skill which a single person or team competes against another for entertainment. Dance takes skill and has fierce competitiveness.

The skills in dance are doing the splits, being able to balance on one foot while spinning 380 degrees multiple times, and able to dance while exerting all energy in your body for 2-6 minutes minimum. As easy as it sounds, it’s not. Not only is dance physically exhausting but it is mentally, challenging. A dancer has to always be working on their technique and remembering the dance sequence.

Dance is also an art. The best thing about dancing is that you can tell a story and make people feel things without talking.
Being able to connect with the music and show people how it makes you feel is something that football will never be able to do.
