Girls basketball team looks to improve in second half of games
January 11, 2018
The girls basketball team is still looking for its first league win of the season after returning from winter break. The Spartans are 4-8 overall after losses to Horizon and Rocky Mountain in the past week.
Against Rocky Mountain, the Spartans started strong and ended the first quarter down by just six points. Despite being outscored by the Lobos again in the second quarter, the Spartans went into halftime down just 34-26.
But the Spartans struggled in the second half offensively, and saw the game get out of hand. West mustered just 14 points in the final 16 minutes and the Lobos pulled away with a 62-40 victory. The loss dropped the Spartans to 0-2 in league play.
Senior Christi Frierson and Freshman JJ Aragon led the Spartans in scoring with 13 points each. Aragon also led the Spartans in rebounds, assists, and tied a few other players with steals.
Frierson she stated, “We need to continue to get better and finish games. We played good in the first half but didn’t play the same in the second. If we put a full game together we would put ourselves in a better opportunity to win.”
The Spartans travel to Broomfield on Friday to take on the Eagles.
