Junior, Jackson Morgan, took a trip to Africa with his dad and brothers from January 2 through January 16 to experience the cultures and landmarks Africa has to offer. For the first four nights, Morgan stayed at the Outpost Lodge, which is right outside of the city Arusha. While Morgan stayed at the Outpost Lodge, he and his family visited the city and walked through the different markets.

The second hotel Morgan and his family stayed at was Kiriumu Tented Lodge. Morgan stayed here for two days right before he went to climb Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain in Africa) in Tanzania. While he and his family stayed at Kiriumu Tented Lodge, Morgan went on several safari rides and experienced the desert areas of Africa.

The next five nights Morgan climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. The first night, Morgan stayed at base camp before beginning his hike up the mountain. Morgan stated, “We stayed in small tents every night that we would take down and travel with the next day. Our guides (porters) would carry the tents for us and help us set them up each night.”

Morgan got up at 6 a.m. every morning and hiked until 4 p.m. “It would become too dark to continue hiking after 4 and have time to still set up our tents for the night,” Morgan said. However, even though Africa was an amazing experience and climbing Kilimanjaro was a once in a lifetime opportunity, Morgan was ready to come back home after not being able to take a shower for six days. “Africa was an amazing experience; I saw several different cultures and landmarks I never thought I would see,” Morgan stated.

Morgan’s next trip is right around the corner and will be a little more normal.  On Friday, Morgan will be taking a trip with his dad to Hong Kong to visit his dad’s business school, Brigham Young University (BYU.) Morgan will be travelling to Hong Kong for six days and Shanghai for three days. “I am mainly excited to go to Disney in Hong Kong and see how different it is to Disney in Florida.”
