Every year, the performing arts program goes to various middle schools and performs for the younger students, trying to get them interested in music. This year the chamber orchestra, marching band, Spartones jazz choir, theater, and Poms dance team headed to five different middle schools.

They arrived and left before the school day started on November 9 and headed to Chappellow, Prairie Heights, Westridge, Brentwood, and McAuliffe.

The chamber orchestra performed two pieces, the marching band performed three songs, the Jazz choir performed two songs, the theater brought a small snippet of the upcoming play, and the Poms danced to their eight counts that they do for football games and one other song.

After each performance, everyone has to quickly get everything loaded and make their way to the next school on time.

Senior Jose Alamos who’s part of the orchestra said that he enjoyed the runouts. He did the event twice before this year, first his freshman year and again his sophomore year. He didn’t think the performances went too well but he did have fun playing.

“I enjoyed going back to Chappellow cause of the broad memories,” said Alamos.

Sophomore Demetri Stag who is part of the marching band said he enjoyed runouts as well. He played in the event last year and enjoyed the pieces he played. His favorite thing about going was that he got to go back to Brentwood and see his old teachers.

Senior Keanna Hegwood who is in the choir said she also enjoyed runouts. This year was her first year doing runouts.

“I enjoyed what we played and I liked seeing the reactions of the middle schoolars, knowing that we inspired them to come to West,” said Hegwood.
