The Greeley West girls softball team may have struggled throughout the season and in conference play, but one of the biggest awards of the season was bestowed upon a Spartan play.

Senior Kyra Grauberger was been named Front Range League Softball Player of the Year at the annual coaches meeting.  Despite just one league win, Grauberger showed presence and competitiveness, particularly at the plate, where she hit .661.  She hit 6 home runs and drove in 30 runs.  The Spartans scored 142 runs this season and Grauberger added accounted for 57 of them, either by driving them in or by actually scoring them.

In addition, Grauberger stepped up and pitched most games, which she hadn’t done since middle school.  In all, she led the league in batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.

Kyra Graugberger said, “I am super honored because there are a lot of great players in our league.”

Grauberger hopes to continue her career after high school.  “I plan on playing softball at a school in Colorado. I’m still deciding,” Grauberger said.
