Senior class shares how they plan to vote
October 31, 2020
In the beginning of October, the Greeley West Word put out a survey that asked seniors various questions about their political stance on the upcoming election. The poll surveyed about 40% of the senior population and these are what the outcomes were.
These new voters were asked what political party they associate with. This data was heavily Independent or undecided. 30% of the group were undecided, 30% were Independent, and 40% Democratic.
Seniors were also asked how they believe the current president has done in his 4-year term and give him a rating accordingly. 26.1% said no opinion, 21.7% said poor, 17.4% said below average, and lastly 34.8% said above average.
Most importantly, the seniors were asked whom they plan on voting for and why they will vote for this candidate, or why they were undecided. Overall, 80% said they would vote for Joe Biden, 10% Donald Trump, and 10% undecided.
Along with the decision to choose a candidate they want to vote for, the poll also made the seniors think why they wanted to cast their vote for a nominee. Here are some of their responses.
One senior said, “As much as I may agree with many traditionally conservative values, like those regarding economics and government roles, President Trump has put a bad image on that party for me.”
Another senior stated, “I will vote for Joe Biden because Donald Trump is an awful human being. He has done so many things in even this year alone that have been enough to prove that he shouldn’t be the leader of our country. White supremacy, nationalism, sexism, near fascism, downplaying Covid-19, and as a result loosing 200,000 citizens.”
There was also a differing perspective from one senior, “I am undecided because I think that both candidates are horrible choices because they will be our countries inevitable doom.”
Lastly one senior gave his opinion about why the current president is a good choice, “I believe Trump has done an excellent job in the past four years and has created the best economy in the history of America, also he puts the American people first.”
