School spirit cannot die as West moves into new building
October 1, 2021
Showing your school spirit is a way of having fun in high school and making memories. More importantly it shows your pride for the school. With a new building being built, it is important to ask, will school spirit become different in a new school?
The transition to the new building will come with a lot of changes, but school spirit should not change. Of course this past year it has changed due to the pandemic, but we need to make sure we can go back to assemblies and pep rallies like how it used to be.
The style and tradition of school spirit can also change for the better but can that actually happen? The students have to be committed and want to show their spirit. Even now it is difficult to get students to participate in assemblies or spirit weeks. This might be because there is a group of students who have never truly experienced a real pep rally or assembly like the upperclassmen did before Covid.
Hopefully school spirit becomes better than ever before in the new building, but there is a chance the spark we once had can be lost. Currently it is just a thought, but it can become reality.
Greeley West’s traditions should not change because of a new building. It should feel like a better version of West while still making sure it does not lose the feeling it currently has. All the negative should fall with the old building, but the positive things West has now should carry over and become even better. School spirit needs to be better and it cannot die once the new building is finally here.
