Students shouldn’t have to dodge make-out sessions to get to class

There’s too much love being shown in the hallways.

The thought of having a high school sweetheart is nice, especially in the month of Valentine’s Day. But the public displays of affection people see in the hallways is disgusting. Parents and teachers see high school as a place to get an education, whereas many students go to just see their crushes or their “loml.”

Senior Carlos Maynez said the adults should just butt out of it.  “I believe that schools shouldn’t worry about relationships because it’s the students’ life and I don’t know why school would worry about their personal lives,” Maynez said.

The staff members see it quite differently.  “We try to break up whatever we can – like if we see them smooching then you know, it’s inappropriate in a public setting,” campus monitor Mr. Rudi Danford said.

Schools should encourage more boundaries with intimacy between students and their relationships. Dodging couples kissing in the halls is awkward and a bit weird.  You don’t have to do that at King Soopers when you’re buying groceries and you shouldn’t have to do it here.

Relationships can be nice and beautiful, but students should focus more on the real reason as to why they show up everyday:  school.
