Freshman Registration night is an event that should happen every year, but last night was the first time in three years that West held the event in person.  It provided incoming 9th graders with an opportunity to see the new building, to meet other students, teachers, and administrators, and to welcome the students to Greeley West.

This event shows future Spartans and their parents what this school is as well as what activities, sports, clubs, and classes are offered. Attendees were introduced to theater, choir, cheerleading, football, Robotics Club, Fashion Club, baking and pastry, Poms, swimming and, of course, the IB Program. Anyone that comes to West can try or join anything.  Some of these opportunities will even happen before the next school year starts (like cheerleading tryouts and football camps).

The night began at 6:30 p.m. where many people started to show up, ready to see what the students will become. Everyone started in the gym which was filled and many programs showed what they’re all about. Principal Jeff Cranson started the assembly off with the cheer team showing off one of their many routines where the crowd really enjoyed how well they did. Afterwards, the Poms team performed a dance where everyone was very impressed with their skills.

Once the Pom team was done performing, the choir sang a few songs to show that their program is filled with amazing singers. Quickly after, Ms. Peggy Freemole introduced the new musical, Mamma Mia, that will open at the end of March.

After many theater students showed a sneak peak of their upcoming musical, the marching band played two songs which then ended with the Greeley West fight song which is known by many. Everyone in the stands stood up to show their support and excitement for everything that was displayed. These things were shown to the incoming freshman to reiterate that freshmen don’t only have to choose one thing in high school, they can do so many clubs, programs, and sports all throughout the year.

There were over 600 8th graders that attended to see what this school has to offer, but there were over 1,000 people that attended last night. After the assembly, the 8th graders and their parents had to go to classrooms where they were assigned to get more information about the school when they attend here. After they got the information, the families were able to go in the commons and the main hallway to see all the sports and clubs that are offered here.
