Greeley West is only two weeks into the new school year, and there are already problems. Take for instance the case of the mini stuffed octopus that was stolen from Ms. Elizabeth Dent’s classroom on August 22.
Dent, an AVID and English teacher, reported her missing octopus by posting on social media and by printing out missing posters that are currently hanging around the school. She even tagged the West Word on Facebook to get the word out.
Dana Quezada, a junior at Greeley West who has AVID with Dent said, “We knew about the missing octopus because she sent out an email asking about the missing octopus and if she could get it back.”
The octopus went missing in 5th period and Dent believes she has nailed down the theif to one of two suspects who she asked to remain unnamed. She was willing to share her two theories on how the octopus went missing, however.
Dent said, “Students really love the octopus and wanted it for their own; the octopus squeaks and some of the students squeak it freely, causing some annoyance from the other students, and I think one student took it out of annoyance.”
Dent explained how the theft has sparked interest among other teachers, Mr. Ryan Pace being one. Pace explained that his forensic science team is going to solve the crime. “We will go and Ms. Dent has provided us clues about where the octopus may be and where the suspects are. Using that, we will try to flush out the suspects. We are going into the suspect’s class, gathering fingerprints and running DNA to find the one responsible,” Pace said.
Stay tuned… the drama will continue to unfold.
