Getting your driving permit or licence is a very daunting task for many. Wwhile some can’t wait to get out on the road, others choose not to pursue this.
Younger teenagers may choose to not drive for a number of reasons. Fear tends to be one of the main factors as to why students choose not to drive, as well as a lack of confidence or issues with finances.
Freshman Chloe Davison is worried about getting her permit beccause of safety factors. “Starting to drive mainly scares me because when I was younger, I was in a car accident that sent me all the way through the windsheild,” Davison said.
Getting into a car accident is an extremely troubling topic that scares many. Fear of accidents is not uncommon, however, and can push away new drivers from getting out on the road when they’re of age to learn or get their driver’s licence.
Along with those whom are afraid of driving, come those who are excited to start driving. Sophomore Keyli Domingez falls into that category. “I’m very excited to start driving because it means I don’t have to worry about riding in a packed bus to school and going home,” Dominugez said. “It also means I can start doing my own thing and get a job.”
While there can be excitement to driving, upperclassmen have already taken advantage of their age and are getting themselves to and from school. Junior Makai Morales stated, “I enjoy driving for a number of reasons, but the reason I enjoy it the most is because I drive a big red truck that makes it easy to get in and out of the busy parking lot”
Although there are those who choose not to drive, driving can bring new horizons and opportunities to students who do drive. Getting yourself to school, driving around friends, or even just enjoying off campus lunch are all incentives to driving.
