Former President Donald Trump recently turned himself in for being indicted for his efforts to rig the 2020 election. Students and staff had a lot to say about the mugshot that was recently released to the public.
Social Studies teacher Mr. Ky Dietz, who teaches U.S. Government and AP Government, had lot of opinions on the recent events and explained his philosophy of dealing wit hthe current event in his classroom. ¨Yes, I have shown the kids (the mug shot) so they can understand some of the stuff that will help you politically and to show them that there is two different sides,” Dietz said.
Personally, Dietz thought, “It was an interesting mug shot. He is going to use this mug shot as a political ploy to try to get his backing to be more stringent and tough on his side, but then showed up because he started selling mugs, shirts and all kinds of stuff like that.”
First-year government teacher Mr. Nick Jacoby also had something to say about the recent events involving Trump and is using it in a way to teach his class differently as well . ¨I’ve already brought it up with my class a few times to show people how complex politics can be,” Jacoby said. “That you can use the same thing for two different sides of the story.¨
Senior Mariah Romero, who still pays attention to politics even though she’s no longer in government class, said most kids view it as a joke. “I think the situation is pretty funny with all of the funny pictures that have came out involving his mug shot, and the way things could be learned is to show or get people more into the system,¨ Romero said.
