Junior Saverio Merlino is a new student at Greeley West, unlike many of the other transfers or new freshmen. Merlino is a foreign exchange student from Italy and before this trip had never there.
¨I like this school a lot, everything is really new, I like it,¨ Merlino said. “Coming to America, I feel that everything is new and I want to try everything that I can for this new experience.¨
Coming to America and having to learn a different language could be a struggle for some, but not for Merlino. Learning a new language to him is coming to him faster and faster.
Changing to a new school and having to meet new people and learn different things has been a challenge for him. But he stated that stuff is coming to him and he is getting support and help when it is needed.
Making new friends friend for some may be a challenge for some but not not for him. Merlino said, ¨They are very good. Everyone is friendly and wants to help.”
Merlino explained how there is new sports coming to America, but he enjoys them. He said, ¨My first sport that I played seriously in Italy and also here is basketball.¨
He talked about how he decided to play football for the first time and wants to try baseball in the spring time. “They have the sports in Italy, but they are played with different rules and played differently,¨ Merlino said.
The big reason that Merlino decided to come to America was he wanted to try a new world. He explained that he wanted a, ¨New style of life, new culture, and to also play basketball.”
