Greeley West is getting busy as the year goes along. With many of the clubs and sports in full action, many catering jobs have also been scheduled for the Catering class.
One of the many jobs coming up is catering to the new LINC library. The LINC library just opened up in downtown Greeley over the summer, and it has asked Greeley West to host its wellness event, serving 300 appetizers, on October 2.
Students in the catering and baking and pastry classes will be making the food and preparing the menus. With over 100 students cooking and preparing for this event, Ms. Brenda Guzman, the culinary teacher at West, takes a lot of her own time to make sure everything is ready and set up.
Guzman said, “Sometimes I come up early at around 7:15 get things ready, make sure all equipment is on, and then Cranson gives me a sub on the day of the day of the event. Typically I stay here until 6 or 7 sometimes later. Not only that, but 90 minutes is not enough time to get groceries for everything, especially if it is a recipe with a lot of ingredients. Uusually I take time out of my weekends for groceries.”
West’s catering jobs became popular over this last year. Guzman explained that many of the jobs are by word of mouth, especially after hosting many community events, parent-teacher nights, and other school events.
Typically after major sports are over, the coaches turn to Greeley West for their catering, as it is cheaper. Many schools and local businesses in Greeley will email Guzman for catering jobs, and hosting their local events.
