As a student and national organization, the Tri-M Music Honor Society offers music-based opportunities to promote leadership and service. Tri-M has a history of contributing to the community through various performances. For instance, in the past, Tri-M students played music for nursing homes and helped collect gloves for those in need.
Tri-M Music Honor Society has been an organization since 1936. Greeley West High School has provided this opportunity to music students for the past eight years. At Greeley West, Tri-M plays a vital role in providing leadership opportunities to music students, who in turn contribute to the betterment of their community.
Through music, students can express themselves and draw attention to current issues. “Music is always a hub of social justice, fundraising, and bringing awareness to events. Naturally, we want students to be a part of this at Greeley West,” Tri-M sponsor and orchestra teacher, Mr. Tom Nugent stated.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tri-M had to temporarily stop their performances for the community. However, this year, accepted students can now resume the program and showcase their talents once again. “The plan this year is really up to the students. We would like to engage the student body with music as well as serve to better the community,” Nugent said.
Nugent believes that it is important for students, in Tri-M or not, to be involved in school events and support music in general. “To support Tri-M, Greeley West students can just get involved in school and support what’s going on musically,” Nugent stated.
The first Tri-M meeting was held on Tuesday. Accepted music students are excited to help their community, raise money for organizations, and share their music with others.
