Last night the Greeley West Spartans volleyball team played against their cross town rivals the Greeley Central Wildcats. The team swept the Wildcats in three sets
The Spartans volleyball team is 6-3 in this season after winning against two of their cross town rivals – Northridge and now against the Central Wildcats. The Spartans have won four games where they have swept each set. The Spartans are currently ranked Number #1 in the 4A NCAA volleyball league with a record of 2-0 in league.
Senior setter Chelsie Roberts expressed her thoughts on the game last night. “I had a lot of adrenaline pumping through my body before the game. At the end of the game I was super happy that we won 3-0 while also happy with the way that my team played,” Roberts said.
The Spartans have only lost three matches this season, two of those coming at the beginning of the season. Now, they’ve rattled off five straight wins. Their roster is a senior dominated roster with half of the team being seniors. At the end of the game, Spartan senior middle-hitter Davanee McKinney received the Greeley Tribune MVP award.
“ I was super happy receiving the award since my sister who previously had gone here wasn’t able to get it and winning the MVP award felt like I was winning this for both of us,” Mckinney said.
The team has a tough four-match stretch coming up, playing Longmont, Centaurus, Mead, and Windsor, who all have a combined record of 27-11. Windsor may be the toughest foe, with a record of 11-1. The Spartans’ next game is at Longmont tomorrow.
