The Greeley West community is suffering from the loss of senior Joey Lee Aleman, who passed away on Sunday, September 17.
Aleman had a big impact on Greeley West, especially in the FFA events and activities. Aleman attended and stepped up for every event and activity he possibly could. He was active in the FFA community all of his high school career. He served as a sentinel for two years and was vice president for his senior year.
Aleman was known for many things. Mr. Kelly Longacre, one of the FFA sponsors at West, said, “Joey was a light-hearted, funny kid who tried to find the right joke,” Longacre said.
His fun demeanor made Aleman a hit with is peers and he made many friends during his high school years who cared and loved him. Senior Aiden Datteri said, “I have known Joey since middle school and were good long-time friends. He is always the guy to have a laugh. He made everyone’s day.”
Aleman is said to have lit up a room or helped others rise, even when he wasn’t always at his own best. The impact of Aleman’s passing has impacted many people as well as FFA-centered events. The Agriculture Night scheduled for September 21 was canceled and other October events are also being considered to be moved.
Many teachers and staff who were impacted by Aleman wore white to school today in honor of him and his impact. Today was also Aleman’s funeral service.
