Last year Greeley West High School said goodbye to a fantastic Key Club sponsor. Former English teacher Ms. Kim Fisher created a welcoming community for students who wanted to serve their community. This year, English teacher Ms. Taylor Fellinger is excited to do the same.
Key Club is an organization that helps students serve their community with a variety of community service options. So far, Key Club members plan to work with the food bank, contribute to the Oktoberfest held in downtown Greeley, and help with the NHS coat drive.
Before Fisher left, she came to Fellinger and asked her to be the new sponsor for Key Club. “Fisher, the old sponsor came to me and asked me to take it over. I did a similar club in high school, so I’m familiar with the goals and student opportunities Key Club offers.”
Fellinger is still learning the ins and outs of running Key Club and is excited to welcome all students who want to make a difference and help out the community. “Anyone is welcome to join, we really want anyone who is willing to contribute and put in the work. Students also get community service hours for their hard work,” Fellinger stated.
Key Club meetings are held on Thursday mornings before school. This is a perfect time to meet since some students are also involved with sports and other after-school activities. “Unlike most clubs, we meet before school on Thursdays. We don’t have a set schedule on which Thursdays – students like to brainstorm about what works best for them,” Fellinger explained.
With a new sponsor, comes new ideas. Fellinger is excited to add her own twist to Key Club without losing sight of past traditions. “Key Club wants to continue traditional projects like Trick or Treat Street, helping Student Council with snowflakes, and continue to partner with additional clubs,” Fellinger stated.
