The Greeley West soccer team keeps building their family lifestyle. Their latest bonding activity happened in Commerce City overthe weekend as they attended the Colorado Rapids’ Noche Latina as the Rapids took on FC Austin.
The match was entertaining, as the Rapids took down Austin in a hard-fought 1-0 game. Don’t let the scoreline fool you, the match had its nail-biting moments throughout the 90 minutes of playtime.
The Spartans enjoyed watching the professionals do their thing. When in the middle of a corner kick during the 41st minute of the match Danish captain Andreas Maxsø was able to knock the loose ball in the back of the net. With a stadium filled with around 15,000 fans in attendance and of course, the Spartans, it was enough to get the crowd going and keep the Rapids momentum going.
This isn’t the first time that the boys’ soccer team has done this. Last year in another Noche Latina, the team was able to attend another Rapids match where they took on the San Jose Earthquakes and saw the Rapids come out on top with a 2-0 win.
Head coach Jorge Cabral encouraged more teams are able to have team bonding experiences as it encourages a better and healthier team. “Seasons are really short, and they fly by faster than you could ever imagine. Something simple like getting the team together to have a fun experience creates memories that last a lifetime,” Cabral said.
Some family members have also joined in on the fun as they joined their athletes in the game. Sophia Tijerina joined her brother in this fun bonding experience and shared that it brings them together. “I’m glad that we can get together and be able to enjoy the sport that we both grew up with,” Tijerina said.” I’m also hoping that the girls’ soccer program is able to do this because it’s great to see how a team can get together to enjoy a shared moment.”
The Spartans’ soccer team has always enacted keeping a family environment throughout the team and it’s great that they are able to have family reunions like these.
