The Greeley West Fashion Club participated in the first annual Diversity Day by showcasing different cultural clothing from various Greeley West cultures. Members of the club displayed some of the clothing on mannequins and also wore the cultural clothing themselves for live representation.
The fashion club showcased their growth and hard work during Diversity Day by displaying outfits handmade by students and donated by others who wanted to share their culture. Along with the models, the fashion club provided a detailed description of each outfit to explain the cultural beauty represented within each piece of clothing.
Fashion club sponsor and librarian, Ms. Susan Eastin, believes that being involved in Diversity Day was important because it was an opportunity to highlight the diverse student body at Greeley West. “Diversity Day was a great opportunity to showcase the unique ethnic diversity we have here at West,” Eastin shared.
Fashion club members were excited to be a part of Diversity Day because they believed it was important to learn about other people’s cultures while also having the opportunity to teach their own. “I wanted to be a part of Diversity Day because I got to spread my culture around, and also had the opportunity to learn more about other cultures,” fashion club member and sophomore, Diana Kudo stated.
Fashion club member and sophomore, Mariana Ramirez, believes that showing up for school functions like Diversity Day is important because it’s a unique experience that allows students to feel included at school. “I think it’s important to show up. Today was a great opportunity to be involved in school and it allowed everyone to walk in another person’s shoes for a day,” Ramirez said.
Diversity Day was full of different activities for students to explore. There was food, dances, and guest speakers. The fashion club was excited to embrace their cultural differences and teach others that being diverse is a great opportunity to learn.
