This Thursday, the Greeley West FFA will host its annual chili cookoff.
The cookoff is also paired with the speech night, and speeches will be presented after the chili. Many staff members have been asked to come and judge the student speeches regarding health and safety issues in the agriculture department. The winner of the speech will then go on to compete at Districts for cash prizes and scholarships.
The chili cookoff has been planned for weeks. Friends and family of the Greeley West population will enjoy the chili made by students and families that chose to make some. There will be desserts and drinks provided as well.
Ag teacher and director of the chili cookoff Ms. Alex Grimes said, “I usually take about a week’s worth of my personal time to make sure everything is in order, and I take about two weeks of class time to prepare students for their speeches.”
The cookoff is used to bring the community together and show the different chili from different cultures and families. It is open to the faculty and student body, as well as their families. They expect to have about 100 people at the event.
Chili will be shared and judged by the people who attend. The family with the best chili will win a handmade cutting board made by the agricultural department.
