Maria KouKoula is a sophomore foreign exchange student at Greeley West High School.
She is a great student and is doing well in her core and elective classes. ¨I enjoy the school and environment,¨ Koukoula said.
Maria is a foreign exchange student from Greece and has grown up there all of her life. She said ¨I came to America to get new experiences.¨
Coming to a different place knowing that she has to learn a new language and meet new people has not been much of a challenge for her. She believes that the classes are easier for her and the people here are nice and help her out a lot.
Her being in America has opened up new opportunities for her and she came here with a scholarship. She included that the scholarship would be good on her college application.
School is different in many different places and changes everywhere you go. She said ¨School here is much easier than in Greece because it is more social and in Greece, they are all about grades,¨ KouKoula said.
Her favorite part about being in Greece is the food and she said that the food is much better there. She proceeded to say that the food in Colorado is not terrible, but it is not as good as it is in Greece.
At first, she was afraid to come to America for many different reasons. She also said, ¨It is scary to come somewhere new that you don’t know anything about.¨
Over time she learned many new things and is starting to understand stuff now.
