Greeley West National Honor Society has begun its 2023 winter coat drive. From November 27th thruDecember 15th, students and teachers are encouraged to bring in their gently used or new winter outwear to help families in need. Donations will be sent to the Scroll and Fan Clothing Bank and the Rodarte Community Center.
A competition between the grades and teachers for the most donated clothing will be held for a chance to win a reward. Freshmen can turn in winter wear in the English department, sophomores in History, juniors in Science, seniors in Math, and teachers in the main office.
The Greeley West NHS started the coat drive to contribute to the variety of community service projects available in the community. “Last year we actually raised over 270 coats that went out to people that aren’t as fortunate to have access to warm winter coats,” NHS sponsor Mr. Ryan Pace shared.
NHS is excited to expand donations to all winter wear instead of restricting it to just coats.“This year we can take coats, hats, gloves, and other winter wear. It’s important to us as an organization to help out the most we can, this way we can give back a lot more.” Pace explained.
NHS student Sophie Duphar shares that it’s important for students to participate in this coat drive to not only have a chance to win a prize but to also help better the community. “It’s important to help the less fortunate, better our community, and be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Plus the group that wins gets to choose from a variety of rewards,” Duphar stated.
Last year, the class who donated the most coats got to choose to pie a teacher in the face. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to better your community and a chance to win.
