It’s that time of the year again when Spotify Wrapped comes out and it has students very excited about it.
Spotify Wrapped is when Spotify shows you stats about your music. It shows your top artists, your top songs, and how many minutes you listen to music in a single year. Apple Music has the same concept, but here in the hallways, Spotify users are more common than Apple Music users.
Students always have some type of headphones in their ears, which can be during class, passing period, or lunch, students have their headphones on, and most likely listen to music. Since Spotify lets you know how many minutes you have listened to throughout the year, the amount of minutes students have listened to music ranges from 7,000 minutes to 122,000 minutes. Students listen to music almost every day so it has basically become part of their routine. Some students listen to music to enjoy it, some use it for motivation, and others just to have some sort of background noise. Senior Daniel Sandoval listened to 33,700 minutes of music, and he listened to music for different reasons. “Pregames, walking in the hallways, and when I’m cleaning in my house,” Sandoval said.
Students No. 1’s ranged from Peso Pluma to Taylor Swift, Drake to Luke Combs.
Students enjoy seeing their Spotify Wrapped to see what kind of music they’ve been listening to throughout the year. Senior Rylan Garcia enjoyed seeing his Wrapped as he liked to see his different types of music. “Shows my music taste, like what I am into I liked seeing that,” Garcia said.
A lot of music artists released music this year, so students had all year to enjoy their new songs. Senior Jose Romano was happy that some of his new, recent songs he’s listened to made the list. “I liked that it had all the recent songs I’ve been listening to,” Romano said.
But with every good thing comes a flaw. Many students reported that their Spotify Wrapped was inaccurate. Junior Alonso Villanueva wasn’t too happy with his top artist being Peso Pluma. “I don’t listen to Peso Pluma like that,” Villanueva said.
Since Spotify keeps track of the music you listen to all year, some students weren’t happy that songs they listened to at the beginning of the year made the list, one of those students being Senior Kim Villareal. “I didn’t like that some songs are not on the list,” Villareal said.
Almost every Spotify user looks forward to this time of the year to see their Spotify Wrapped and almost every time it is met with mixed emotions, so maybe next year they can change something in their music so they can like it more.
