Greeley West graduate Justin Whittenburg has made his way into the big shiny lights of Las Angeles. He has successfully ventured into both acting and writing and has managed to land a role in the movie Adventures of the Naked Umbrella.
Apart from his acting career, Whittenburg, a member of the Class of 2015, has also worked as a second assistant director for Tyler, the Creator’s music video “Sorry, Not Sorry,” among other projects.
Many high school students can find inspiration in Whittenburg’s work. Before Whittenburg found a career in Hollywood, he was a devoted actor to the Greeley West’s Performing Arts with many people in his corner cheering him on. He starred in many roles in Greeley West’s productions, bringing enthusiasm to every role.
In high school, Whittenburg believed indulging in art was important. “The world needs more art and the people that can give it to the world are that much more able to accomplish things,” he shared.
His former teacher and big inspiration, Ms. Peggy Freemole isn’t surprised with Whitenburg’s success. “I’m not shocked with his work at all. He worked hard. He had ideas. In theater, I’m looking for someone who has ideas to bring their character to life. This is a tough business, especially in LA and he has tough skin,” she shared.
If carrying out a career in acting doesn’t interest you, Whittenburg believes any form of art can help guide you. “It doesn’t matter if you aren’t brilliant with science or math, if you instill yourself in any form of art whether it’s acting, painting, ceramics, or anything of the sort, it will change the rest of your life,” he stated.
Whittenburg is more than just an actor, Freemole said he’s an amazing person. “He just had enthusiasm, not just in theater but in life. If there’s one thing that I will say about Justin is that he is just a genuinely good human, truly. I’ve been fortunate here to have so many amazing and intelligent kids, but he definitely stands out as one of the finest,” Freemole shared.
