On Wednesday night, Greeley Central trampled over West, 76-46 in the cross-town rivalry game.
Tension was high leading up to tip-off, and the first minutes of the game showed that. West missed 3 of its 4 free throws after being fouled.
After the sloppy start, Central started getting hot. Central Senior Reid Richardson only missed one of his first 5 3-point attempts.
West found itself down big early and they never came back. Central kept making their shots, and getting second-chance points at will. West did not have a force in the paint, and their struggles to get rebounds showed that.
The team hoped for a second-half comeback, but terrible shot selection to start off the half dug their hole even deeper.
Greeley West had spurts of energy but never went on a run long enough to win the game. Andrew Zepeda and Jacob Flores led Spartan scoreres with 15 and 14 points respectively.
West aims to get even in the rematch in February. Tonight, the Spartans play host to Longmont at 7 p.m.
