Greeley West junior Londyn Daniel qualified for state in diving on Thursday afternoon. She is a first-year diver and is doing her part for the team and has been very successful.
As a freshman, Daniel was a part of the cheerleading team. But for two years, swim coach Colin Shaha recommended she come up out and give diving a try. With it being her first time trying and doing something new, she explained how she is really enjoying it.
Thinking about her past as a cheerleader, one would maybethink it gave her an advantage in diving, however Daniel said that was not true. “Cheerleading didn’t help with my accomplishments (in learning diving) because I feel like it held me back from trying new things,¨ Daniel said.
Even though it’s being Daniel’s first year, she has qualified for state in February. “It’s really fulfilling and made me confident in diving,¨ Daniel explained.
She also added that she did not perform at the best that she believes she can do. She’s looking forward to exceeding those limits. Knowing that she has already qualified for state won’t make her work less hard. She said, “I’m working harder (now) to do even better at state.¨
Daniel said that her two coaches Shaha and diving coach Joey Meillinger have pushed her and gave her confidence to try diving. She especially shouted out Meillinger, who she said, “helped me through each dive and has given me guidance through all of it.¨
