After a disappointing and dry December, the Greeley West Spartans were able to have their prayers answered with the first snow day of the year being activated. If their weekend wasn’t already long enough with having Marin Luther King Day off, the snow day was able to extend their weekend to four days without school.
After the start of the semester, students have been dreading the start of classes as it is nearly the final stretch of the school year. So it’s safe to say that the break was well appreciated for not just the students but for the teachers as well.
Gym teacher and softball coach Ms. Jessica Markanich decided to take full advantage of the free day to be productive after her wish came true.“Of course I was hoping for a snow day, who wouldn’t want to?” Markanich said. “ I used it to meditate, and to work on my gains and goals. Just making sure I stay on the grind.”
Markanich’s love for West doesn’t even hide on a snow day as she expressed that her day felt empty without being around her weights and physical education classes.
“West is always on my mind, I love what I do as a teacher,” Markanich said. “I love motivating my students and seeing them pushing themselves and staying active, so not being able to have them made me miss being here at work”.
Administrators *cough Principal Jeff Cranson* didn’t have an easy day when the snow came around but made the best of it. “Well, principals still come in to make sure that students don’t arrive here at school and if they do I make sure they have a way home,” Cranson said. “ I was able to get some work done here and get in a lift at the weight room. You know got to make sure we’re still active on slow days”.
While administrators showed their love and anticipation for a snow day, it could only be imagined how the students felt.
