What happens when a student has worked hard for 12 years in school and is less than four months away from graduating and finishing school? They begin not to care, and slack off in class. The idea of senioritis seemed to be just another online idea, but the class of 2024 is realizing that senioritis is far from just an idea.
Senior Pedro Chavez thought senioritis was not going to affect him. “ I used to laugh at senioritis, but now that I’m almost done, it’s hitting hard,” Chavez stated. “I just need to try and finish stronger.”
Many students have been attending school since the age of 4, and now at 18 they are beginning to see the finish line. With each day, they are more than ready to cross it. Lots of students have begun to see their grades fall further than they have in previous years, all because they are over school.
It is so easy to think that it would be easy to end your last semester of school on the right foot, but many are realizing that it is extremely difficult. Senior Jaime Ramirez is one of the many victims of senioririts. “It is very frustrating, because you know you need to get stuff done, but the work just builds up,” Ramirez explained. “It’s even more frustrating cause you know it’s senioritis and you know why it’s happening, but you an do anything to stop it.”
These students have worked way too hard to fail now. They are in the last months of school, they will need to overcome this senioritis to begin their next chapter right, to begin their future strong.
Senior AVID teacher Ms. Lea Sanford has a front row seat to all the seniors fighting senioritis. “Senioritis is a real afliction that targets all the seniors. To combat it. it’s very important to take classes you really enjoy and remind yourself of all your life goals.”
