Greeley West cheerleaders presented the school with their Championship League trophy at last week’s assembly. The cheer team was also celebrated with the raising of a banner for their League Championship. The cheerleaders were the last team to be presented with a banner back in 2021.
Freshman Caine Gonzalez felt rewarded when presented with the banner. “It felt awesome because my team and I worked really hard to place where we did and it was cool to be appreciated that day,” Gonzalez stated. “It felt really cool to see our hard work always be with the school and even when I become a senior and graduate it will always be here.”
Coach Brodie Subia feels great about bringing the reward back to Greeley West. “We’ve actually earned this championship title several times over recent years but this one feels better since we unfortunately lost it last year to Silver Creek. So it was great bringing the league title back to West this year… Where IT BELONGS,” Subia exclaimed.
Subia also shared a secret to his successful program. “I think what helps our program is being consistent in our training, our strong mind set and also our goal to improve each and every time our team takes the mat. We build our athletes from the ground up in most cases and I think it shows when we step out in public with how great we represent the school in the community and on the mat,” Subia said.
Senior Tori Wells won this title before but this time was her last with Coach Subia and she felt it was well-deserved. “I’m exited and happy because this year came up with a lot of challenges and I felt like we earned and deserved this,” Wells explained.
She expressed how the team wouldn’t be where it is today without their coach. “The rules he sets for us are different than the other coaches. They put their team out their without actually thinking about what they are trying to accomplish. When we go out there, we are prepared and know what to expect,” Wells said.
