Last week was National FFA week at Greeley West, and on February 21st it was cheeseburger day. A yearly thing here at Greeley West, Mr. Kelly Longacre is in charge of making the cheeseburgers, which was handed out during A and B lunch. All this was possible by JBS, who helped sponsor this and helped pay for the meat and ingredients needed to make this possible.
Longacre was the one in charge of grilling/ He started at 9 a.m. in order to keep up with such popular demand by students and teachers. Longacre fed around a thousand students, also including staff who stopped by and grabbed a burger or two. “JBS sponsors this event so we can do things for our staff and students, FFA members, and other kids that came,” Longacre said.
Senior Aidan Datteri, an FFA member, helped pass out and serve burgers to staff and students who dropped by to eat one. Datteri believes this event is a good way to get FFA to get involved around the school and community, as it gets students to come check out the agriculture room and get to know FFA more. Datteri says it’s also important for FFA to help other students who can’t afford to eat lunch or for students who don’t eat enough at school, so giving back to the community is important. “It’s an easy way to get people back through the shop, get people to the ag rooms, kinda see what the community is like, get them to meet the teachers,” Datteri said.
